Dennis Rubin (1942-2003). Playwright, director and producer.

Biography

Dennis was born in Durban in 1941. He attended Penzance and Highbury primary schools and matriculated from Northlands Boys High. He lived in Durban until his death in May 2003 aged 61, after a long and courageous battle against diabetes.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

For 20 years he ran the Durban Theatre Academy and up until the time of his death, at least 1 000 children had benefIted from his generous teaching.

His most successful production was The Rope, which went to the Grahamstown Festival, followed by the children's play, Freddie the Frog, which ran annually, for 10 years, in the Botanic Gardens in Durban.
