The Stronger (Swedish: Den starkare) is a 1889 one-act play by August Strindberg. The play is quite short, consisting of only one scene that can be performed in approximately 10 minutes. The characters consist of only two women: a "Mrs. X" and a "Miss. Y", only one of whom speak, an example of a dramatic monologue.

Staged by the Libertas Teaterklub in May 1966 in The Cellar, with Marie van Heerden as Miss Y and Madeleine Heyns as Mrs. X, in their own Afrikaans translation (from the English) as Die Sterkere.

Translated into Afrikaans as Die Sterkere and presented by Universiteitsteater Stellenbosch in the H.B. Thom Theatre in October 1975 with Suzanne Britz and Leona Rich, directed by Ria Olivier.
