De Weddenschap
De Weddenschap ("The Bet") is a one-act farce in Dutch-Afrikaans by Melt J. Brink (1842–1925).
Also known as Die Weddenskap.
The original text
First performed by Aurora II in 1871 and was originally published as Die Kwaaije Huishoudster by De Bussy (Pretoria) and HAUM (Cape Town) in 1905, and then reprinted 1915 and 1920.
Translations and adaptations
The play was used as one of the texts in the compilation Ons Hou Konsert II by Robert Mohr (1983).
Performances
1871: First performed (as De Weddenschap) in Dutch by Aurora II on 4 May, with Misdaad en Wroeging (Meys)
1905?: Possibly performed by Aurora in Cape Town.
1983: Performed as part of Ons Hou Konsert II (Melt Brink/Robert Mohr) by CAPAB in Cape Town.
