Die Water Zaak, of Engelsch vs Hollandsch by C.J. Langenhoven. A short Afrikaans farce set in Oudtshoorn, dealing with a court case covering watering rights, lawyers, etc. It his first piece for the stage.

Translations and adaptations

An expanded version of this piece became Die Wêreld die Draai (1912), later once more reworked as a full-length play, Die Laaste van die Takhare (1926).

Performance history in South Africa

Performed by amateur societies and schools, then resurrected in 1910 and formally performed under its full title in the Drillsaal (Drill Hall) Oudtshoorn on 16th June 1910. The same company performed in Calitzdorp on 30 July, 1910 and Matjesfontein later the next month.
