The musical version had a libretto by Joachim Perinet (based on a work by Philipp Hafnerforst) and music by Wenzel Müller. It was first performed in the Theater in der Leopoldstadt,  Vienna on 10 October 1793 and was published in 1794 (credited to Wenzel Müller).
