De Ortenbergsche Familie is a Dutch play in three acts by Casper Vreedenberg (1772-1840)[1].

The original text

Based on De Leiding der Ortenbergischen Familie, a novel in three parts by August von Kotzebue (1761–1819)[2], which had been published in Leipzig by Kummer in 1787, this Dutch stage adaptation by the actor Casper Vreedenberg was performed in the Amsterdamse Schouwburg in 1805 (and again 1807) and published by A. Mars in Amsteldam, 1806.

Performance history in South Africa

1823: Performed on 5 April by Tot Nut en Vermaak in the African Theatre, Cape Town, with Het Geschenck, of De Gelukkige Misvatting (Patrat).

1847: Performed once more by Tot Nut en Vermaak en Door Yver Vruchtbaar on 30th April, 1847, as an afterpiece to De Eerste April (Westerman).
