Based on a historical event, namely the death of the Voortrekker leader, Piet Retief in Natal in [1],

1869: First performed in the Germania Hall, Cape Town, by Aurora II on 1 April, with No. 99 (Arnold).

1869: Performed in the Germania Hall, Cape Town, by Aurora II on 20 May, again with No. 99 (Arnold), as a benefit evening for H.W. Teengs.
