(1956-) Bilingual (Afrikaans/English) actor for stage, radio, TV and film.

Biography

Born in Upington in the Northern Cape, the youngest of 5 children, and grew up on the family farm Rooidam, Namibia and went to primary school in Bethanie.


Training

He completed a B.A at the University of Stellenbosch, Department of Drama , and a B.A. Honours degree in Drama at the University of Cape Town.

(CAPAB, 1983), Diepe Grond (Market Theatre and Baxter Theatre, 1985and 1986); He starred in Keith Grenville’s Not About Heroes, for Volute Productions at the Baxter Theatre and Upstairs at the Market in 1986. Performed Whale Nation (The Black Sun and the Whale Well, 1989), Nag, Generaal (Market Theatre, 1989), Speed-the-Plow (Upstairs at the Market, 1990).

By 199* he was one of the leading bilingual performers in the country, taking leads in **** the Kentridge/Handspring Puppet Company productions Faustus in Africa (Market Theatre and Grahamstown Festival 1995), Jane Taylor's Ubu and the Truth Commission (Grahamstown Festival 1997), Confessions of Zeno (Spier Amphitheatre, 2003) , Breyten Breytenbach's Boklied (KKNK, 1999?*), Die Toneelstuk (KKNK, 2001), ***,, Pieter Fourie’s Boetman is die bliksem in! [“Boetman is the Hell In”] (Aardklop festival 2000), Romeo and Julia (Vleis, Rys, en Aartappels , 2005), . ****.

2013: The lead in Macbeth, slapeloos, an Afrikaans adaptation of the Shakespeare play, directed by Marthinus Basson with Anna-Mart van der Merwe (Lady Macbeth), Jana Cilliers, Antoinette Kellermann, Stian Bam, Charlton George, Ludwig Binge, Senzo Madikane en Edwin van der Walt, opening at Aardklop in September ..
