Biography

Born in Upington in the Northern Cape, the youngest of 5 children, and grew up on the family farm Rooidam, Namibia and went to primary school in Bethanie.


Training

He completed a B.A at the University of Stellenbosch, Department of Drama , and a B.A. Honours degree in Drama at the University of Cape Town.

Snoopy!!!, CAPAB, 1983, Audrey Berg (dir), Marthinus Basson, Mark Legward, Miriam Munitz, Roz Monat, Cathy Cota, Lynn Banner, Graham Scott (MD) Brenda Rein (pianist). Whale Nation. Played inter alia leads in Reza de Wet’s Diepe Grond (Baxter Theatre, 1985) and together with Susan Coetzer, Gys de Villiers and Doris Simula he starred in this play under Lucille Gillwald’s direction at Upstairs at the Market in 1986. He starred in Keith Grenville’s Not About Heroes, for Volute Productions at the Baxter Theatre and Upstairs at the Market in 1986. He starred in David Mamet’s Speed the Plow at Upstairs at the Market in 1990. By 199* he was one of the leading bilingual performers in the country, taking leads in ****, the Kentridge/Handspring Puppet Company productions Faustus in Africa (Grahamstown Festival 199*) and Jane Taylor’s Ubu and the Truth Commission (Grahamstown Festival 1997), Whale Nation (19**), Breyten Breytenbach’s Boklied (KKNK, 1999?*), Die Toneelstuk (KKNK, 2001), ***,, Pieter Fourie’s Boetman is die bliksem in! [“Boetman is the Hell In”] (Aardklop festival 2000), Romeo and Julia (Vleis, Rys, en Aartappels , 2005), . ****.
