David Piedt (1940-2020) was a teacher, cultural leader and storyteller.

Biography

An political activist during the Apartheid era,


His last contribution to civil society was the founding of the Civil Servants Pension Redress Movement (CSPRM)[1], of which he remained the chairperson till his death on 27 July 2020.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He was one of the founding members of the committee that brought the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) into being. He was chairman of the management committee for a while.

He served on the Council of the University of Stellenbosch


Awards, etc

Besides various educational awards, he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch for his contributions to education and culture.
