CRICHTON, David. (19*-) Actor, director, decor designer and storyteller.

Biography

He was born in England, has lived in South Africa since 1969 although he appeared in several South African productions before that date.

Career

Joined CAPAB as an actor/director in 1972 until 1977.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Performed in Story Theatre, The Merchant of Venice (as “Lancelot Gobbo”), Christian (for Brickhill-Burke), Jumpers (at the Market Theatre), Don't Drink the Water (with NAPAC), Kismet (with PACT), The Taming of the Shrew (with NAPAC), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (with PACT), Cinderella (with PACT), Anyone for Denis (at the Baxter Theatre and at the Market Theatre and in Robinson Crusoe (with PACT).

In 1956 he starred in Leslie French’s The Tempest for the Johannesburg REPS . In 2005 participated in The Baxter Storytelling Festival at The Baxter Theatre Centre (in association with Sibikwa Community Theatre Project). Roles in ** Amadeus (Baxter Theatre, 2006), **.

Directed The Kimberley Circus (at the Baxter Theatre 1978), Lucky Dip, Rattle of a Simple Man, As You Like It (at Pretoria Technikon) and Lear - The Soap Opera (for Setwork Theatre).

Played Pinkie the Clown for the Baxter Theatre.

Journey's End and Spring Quartet (décor, 1956), Rookery Nook (1975), directed The Kimberley Circus (1978), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1982), Under Milk Wood (1995), The Circus Adventure (1973), Three Cheers for President Charlie (1975), He participated in The Storytelling Festival (2005), The Tempest (1956), The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, The Alchemist (1975), Anyone for Denis? (1983), he participated in the revue Atkinson at 80 – The Importance of Being Michael, (2007),
