Dark is a Way
Dark is a Way is a 1966 creative dance drama by British dancer and university lecturer in dance, Jane Winearls, in collaboration with the composer Gerald Wragg, devised for Cape Town University. The origin of this dance drama is to be found somewhere between the poetic imagery od Dylan Thomas (from whom the title is quoted) and the philosophy of T.S. Eliot as expressed in his poem The Rock.

1966: Devised, choreographed and produced by Jane Winearls and Gerald Wragg at the Little Theatre, Cape Town, opening 27 August 1966. Dark is a Way spanned the apartheid divide with its dancers and actors. Décor and costumes designed by Mavis Taylor. (In memoriam English modernist theatre practitioner Edward Gordon Craig (1872-1966) [1]).
