D.F. du Toit(18**-19**) Also known as “Oom Lokomotief” (“Uncle Steam Engine”), a founding member of Die Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners (“The Association of True Afrikaners”) and a leading figure in the Afrikaans language struggle. Founded and edited the journal Di Patriot (“The Patriot”).

Directed and acted in the first plays put on in Afrikaans (rather than Dutch), in his house at Daljosafat near Paarl and later at Montagu shortly after 1860. (They were De Jonge Kunstschilder, plus an afterpiece).
