The Criterion as a name for a theatre or cinema

The Criterion, Benoni.

A cinema which also doubled as a venue for plays and performances. For example, Gracie Fields performed there in 1935. ****

Corner of Field Street and Esplanade, Durban. Built as a Bio-vaudeville (see Music Hall), the Criterion opened 20/5/1912.
