Biography

Born and raised in western Canada and studied creative writing at the University of British Columbia. After a short period in South Africa, she returned to Canada in 1991 to settle in Toronto and continue her career as playwright. In 1997 she became a Stott Pilates teacher, and - starting in 2001- began to publish the bestselling Pilates on the Ball series. This has since been translated into six languages. She has also written novels.

Contribution to South African Theatre, Film, Media and Performance

Since her mother is South African, Colleen lived in South Africa during the 1980s, where she observed apartheid at first hand. Her award-winning plays Crossing the Line (1989) and Apart (1992), as well as her novel Afrika (Tundra Books, 2008) are in part based on this South African sojourn.
