CONSANI, Christopher (“Chris”). (1944-) Actor, writer and director.

Trained under Mohr at UCT.


Career

He taught English at the Milnerton High School before studying drama. After completing his studies he played for PACOFS before starting a freelance career in Johannesburg.

Performed in Deathwatch (as “Le Franc” with PACOFS), Boerneef van Boplaas (as “Andries Harlekyn” with PACOFS), So Long vir Johnny (as “Stone” with PACOFS), Piekniek op die Slagveld (as "Zepu"), Grand Ceremonial (as “Cavanosa”), Damon Runyon Show (as “Runyon”), The Collector (“as Clegg”), Sweet Bird of Youth, A Murder is Announced (as “Edmund”, directed by Rex Garner) Vincent van Gogh: The Lark and the Crow.

He also had roles in We Bombed in New Haven (The Space in the 1970s), **, **.

Wrote and directed ***. In 19* moved to Israel. Returned in 20 to perform in ** and direct ** **.

The Lark and the Crow with Consani as van Gogh at Johannesburg Art Gallery, 1979. Norman Coombes (producer). A multi-media play. Also at the Edinburgh Festival in 1979. A dramatic interpretation of van Gogh’s letters and paintings. Visuals: Phil Feitelberg and stage Technician: Marilyn Goss. Played in Malvolio in Macbeth, Lefrand in Deathwatch, Casanova in Arrabal’s The Grand Ceremonial, Damon Runyon Show, Sweet Bird of Youth.

Also co-founder and co-director of Amstel Playwright of the Year Award.
