(18**-19**) A well-known Pretoria stage manager, amateur actor and writer. Leading figure, with his brother Adriaan van Schaik, in the Pretoria theatre scene from the 1910s to 1928, with their company, the Nederlandsche Toneel Gezelschap.*** Called "die geesdriftige toneelmeesterspeler" ("enthusiastic stage manager") by Binge (1969, p113), he worked with Paul de Groot in Claire Bellerosa, and on De Groot's important first production of Die Heks (C. Louis Leipoldt) in 1925 as stage manager, make-up artist and set painter.
