WEIR-SMITH, Charmaine (19**- ). South African stage and television actress and director.

Biography

Training

Holds a B.A Honours in Drama from the University of Natal, Department of Speech and Drama.

Career

She spent the early years of her career with the Natal Playhouse Company, moved to Gauteng in 1996.


Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

She has appeared as Ophelia in Hamlet, Em in Story of an African Farm.

She directed Sinderella! (1997), I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change (1999, Civic Theatre Johannesburg), Babes in the Wood (Market Theatre).

Awards

She won the 1995 Vita Award for Best Supporting Actress as Ophelia in Hamlet.

She was nominated for Best Director for a Musical comedy for her direction of Babes in the Wood.
