Member of the Port Elizabeth Opera House and Theatre, Port Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce, Union Boating Company,.

He was an ardent supporter of the Port Elizabeth Opera House and Theatre.

Awards, etc

He was knighted in 1889 for his services to the South African Customs Union.
