(1924-1968) Teacher, journalist and short story writer who described city life. Worked for Drum and Golden City Post before moving to Manzini in Swaziland, where he died. His story The Suit was dramatized by Barney Simon and performed at the Market Theatre and Grahamstown Festival by *** in 1994. In 2002 a dance version of the play was developed and performed at the Baxter Theatre by ** as part of the *** Dance **. A collection of his stories, The World of Can Themba, edited by Essop Patel, was published in 1985. THEMBA, Can. His The Suit was adapted by Mothobi Mutloatse and staged in 1993.
