The original text
C.J. Langenhoven’s story was adapted as a pantomime by Lizz Meiring and Hannes Muller in 1998, with music by Didi Kriel and lyrics by Lizz Meiring and Didi Kriel.
Another version of the tale was written by Denene Erasmus for production by students of the Stellenbosch Drama Department in 2004.

Performance history in South Africa
1998: Performed in Pretoria, directed by Lizz Meiring and Hannes Muller, msuical direction by Didi Kriel and choreography by Christopher Kindo.
1999: The same production performed at the Spier Arts Festival near Stellenbosch.

2004: Directed by Marthinus Basson with students of the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, 20-29 May. The cast included Wilma Schoeman (as the "Narrator"), Eben Genis, Alwyn Kotze, Elsa de Bruyn, Jonathon Durant, Cherice Smith, Gerwon Simon, Sophia Wessels and Yolandé Rabé.
