Brigadoon [1] is an American stage musical with a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It was first staged on Broadway in New York City in 1947 and in 1949 in London's West End.

The feature film of Brigadoon was released by MGM in 1954, directed by Vincente Minnelli, with Gene Kelly, Van Johnson, and Cyd Charisse in the leading roles.
Performance history in South Africa
1950: Staged by African Consolidated Theatres at His Majesty's Theatre, directed by Phil Levard, starring imported leads Louise Boyd and Michael O’Dowd. Olive King and June Hern were two notable local artists who were used in the chorus and in feature parts of imported musicals such as this one.
1968: Staged by the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society, directed by Helen Mann.
1968: Presented by Carousel Productions, Cape Town, directed by Jennifer Craig, July 1968.
