As a student he was involved as actor and director with productions at the [[University of the Orange Free State]] theatre society, and also did amateur theatre work (acting and directing) in the city with groups like the [[Bloemfontein Repertory Society]] and [[Bloemfonteinse Teatergroep]]. Professional stints include musicals for [[FACTS]] and [[PACOFS]]. Joined the [[Volksblad]] in 1966, becoming Arts Editor in 1975. Retired in 2002.
