The Afrikaans name formerly used to refer to a member of the San people in Southern Africa. Derived from the original Dutch word "bosjesman", a name give to the San tribes by Dutch settlers, since these people lived among the "bosjes" (bushes). Later translated into English by the British settlers as Bushman and used for the same purpose.
