The Black People’s Convention (BPC) was an Organisation founded in 1972 to operate on the political front in order to co-ordinate the Black Consciousness Movement in South Africa . Besides its political activities, the BPC also organised community projects such as cultural and health porgrammes and a literacy campaign. (See SABTU and the TECON Theatre Festival.) It was responsible for the establishment of the Black Allied Workers Union. The BPC was banned in October 1977. [Brits, 1995: 31; ]
