Biedermann und die Brandstifter: ein Lehrstuck ohne Lehre, mit einem Nachspiel, by Max Frisch, (1911-1991). Translated into English by Michael Bullock as The fire raisers : a morality without a moral, with an afterpiece (published by Methuen, 1962) and into Afrikaans by Merwe Scholtz as Die Brandstigters. The play offers a disturbing image of Western man who allows himself to be engulfed by anarchy without a whimper of protest.

The Afrikaans translation was presented by CAPAB in April 1978 in the Nico Malan Theatre, directed by Pieter Fourie, with Mees Xteen, Neels Coetzee and Marco van der Colff. Design by Raimond Schoop.
