Bhaskar (1930-2003)[1] was an Indian actor, dancer and painter.


The name has been found wrongly spelled as Baskhar in some sources.

Biography

Born Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury on 11 February, 1930 in Madras, India, he became a renowned an Indian actor and dancer under the name Bhaskar, and after a stage accident that crippled him, turned to painting as a career.

He died on 4 August, 2003 in New York City.

Baskhar visited South Africa in 1961 when Union Artists brought the Indian director Krishna Shah out to remount The King of the Dark Chamber with himself, the renowned actress Suryakumari and students of AMDA. The production opened in Durban before playing at the Wits Great Hall - in both cases to acclaim.
