Barry Berk (19**-) Actor, playwright, television writer and director, filmmaker. Sometimes credited as Barry Burke.


Biography

Youth

Born and raised in Cape Town.


Training

Graduated fron the University of Cape Town Drama Department in 1988.


Career

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a student he had roles in Three Sisters, The Maids, The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail, The Rimers of Eldritch, Pale Souls, Dis Al.

He wrote the play Hanna, Hanna Ek Sê, produced at the Market Theatre directed by Clare Stopford circa 1991 (NELM, theatre programme [Collection: MARKET THEATRE]: 2007. 32. 9. 88). He also wrote Medea : a one-woman play

His first feature film, starring Lionel Newton, was Sleeper's Wake (2013), an adaptation of a novel by Alistair Morgan. (Mail & Guardian, 14 March 2013).

He has appeared in Hard Times (1989), The Good Soldier Svejk and as Dad in East, 1990.

Awards, etc

He won the Newcomers Competition (film) for Angels as Best Drama.

He was part of the directors team nominted for an Avanti Award in 2000 for Soul City IV..(television).
