(19**-) Director and dramatist. **Studied at the [[University of Cape Town]] (BA) with Robert Mohr,  then studied directing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, British Drama League (London), British Council (Stratford-upon-Avon). Later he obtained an MA and a PhD, from the University of Illinois.  He started his stage career with [[The Space]] and later became resident director and dramaturge for the [[Performing Arts Councils]] ([[PACT]]) and artistic director of the [[President Theatre]] [??**] in Johannesburg. Biography

Youth

Training

Studied at the University of Cape Town (BA) with Robert Mohr, then studied directing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, British Drama League (London), British Council (Stratford-upon-Avon). Later he obtained an MA and a PhD, from the University of Illinois.


Career

He started his stage career with The Space and later became resident director and dramaturge for the Performing Arts Councils (PACT) and artistic director of the President Theatre [??**] in Johannesburg.

In 1987 he moved to the USA to teach Musical theatre at the College Conservatory of Music, University of Ohio.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He made his Professional Directorial debut directing Die Burgemeester for KRUIK in 1972 (Nico Malan “Laboratory Theatre).

He directed A Flea in Her Ear (1970), Story Theatre (PACT, 1974), Dubbelspel met die Dood (PACT 1974) and directed Lunch Hour Theatre? at The Space (1972), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (PACT, 1982), Snoopy!!!, (CAPAB, 1983).
