Arthur Benjamin (19**-) Actor, stage- and theatre manager, sound and lighting designer.

Biography

Youth

Training

He won a British Council scholarship and completed his theatre studies In Cardiff.

Career

On his return to South Ali1ca he became a children's drama teacher. He took his vision to retarded and deprived children. He was later appointed drama teacher to high-IQ children at Ihe prestigious Groote Schuur High School.

In the 1970s worked at The Space as stage manager.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As stage manager productions include The Disguise of the Ashes that arose out of the Karnaval at Scarborough to prove that Leonardo was Right – an investigation of guilt, Edith Piaf – Je Vous Aime, The Eternal Dance, Glass House, H.P. and Friends, The Incredible Jungle Journey of Fenda Maria, Medea, Micky Kannis Caught my Eye, My Cup Ranneth Over, My Husbands wild desires almost drove me mad, Play it again, Sam, Three Courteline Comedies, Treats, Viva Espana and Zombie.

He also did the sound and lighting for The Resistable Rise of Arturo UI as well as acted in H.P. and Friends, The Incredible Jungle Journey of Fenda Maria and Three Courteline Comedies. When The Space became The People's Space in 1979?* he became the theatre manager?*
