Anneline Kriel (b. eMalahleni, 28/07/1955). Beauty queen, model, actress. Also credited as Anneline Kriel-Kerzner (once) and Anne Keele (once).

Biography

Anneline Elfreda Kriel was born in Witbank to prison warder Johannes Kriel and his wife Mary Ann. She studied drama at the University of Pretoria and while there was elected queen of the engineering faculty and subsequently rag queen for 1973. The following year she became Miss South Africa and as such represented the country at the Miss World Competition at the Royal Albert Hall in London. When the original winner, Helen Morgan of the United Kingdom, had to resign, Kriel, as the first runner-up, took her place. She thus became the second South African to win the title, after Penny Coelen’s triumph in 1958. After completing her duties as Miss World, she embarked upon a busy and lucrative modelling and advertising career.

Her first screen appearance was in the film version of C.M. van den Heever’s novel Somer (Sias Odendaal/1975), though a television programme entitled Storieboekmoord was actually filmed before that. Other films included Iemand Soos Jy (1978), Kill and Kill Again (1981) and Van der Merwe P.I. (1985). On stage she acted in Robert Kirby’s The Wrong Time of Year (directed by Robert Whitehead) and The Marriage-Go-Round (directed by Rex Garner), both at the Baxter Theatre.

She has been married three times, first to Sol Kerzner (1980-1985), then to Phillip Tucker (1989-1994) and finally to Peter Bacon. With Tucker she had two daughters, Tayla and Whitney.
