This is a reference to the form and style of English spoken and written in the United States of America. This differs in a number of respects from the British version of the language, which is used (with some variation) in other parts of the world.

ESAT has opted for South African English, the South African version of the British usage.

(See "Language and Style" under Basic Principles of Editing and Using ESAT[1] )
