Amanda Strydom (1956-). Actress, cabaret artiste and singer.


Biography

She was born on 23 July 1956 in Port Elizabeth.

Youth

Training

She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a BA degree. She studied drama at the University of the Free State.

Career

She started her theatre career in January 1979 at CAPAB

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Her first role was as Adriana in Kinkels in die Kabel (with CAPAB 1979) followed by Christian (for NAPAC/Brickhill-Burke), Pas Getroud (**Brigadiers), Oh What a Lovely War (with PACT).

She also starred in A.R.Gurney Jr’s The Dining Room together with Gordon Mulholland, Ralph Lawson and Patricia Sanders with direction by Bobby Heaney at the Baxter Theatre circa 1983 and the Alhambra Theatre in 1983; in Janice Honeyman’s production, Forbidden Fruits, together with Jeremy Crutchley, Mike Huff, Danny Keogh, Vanessa Cooke and Annelisa Weiland at Upstairs at the Market in 1983/84; Hell is for Whites Only (Pieter-Dirk Uys, 1982); Met Permissie Gesê (Hennie Aucamp, 198*); The Runner Stumbles (1985).
