South African-born Alfred Edmund Marks was a member of the Port Elizabeth Amateurs acting group and a prominent city auctioneer. He was married to Lilian Agnes (Hirsch) who played a large part in the development of Braille in South Africa which she taught and for transcribing books.

Contribution to South African Theatre

November 30, 1905: Starred as Luis, the Duke's assistant, in The Gondoliers staged at the Port Elizabeth Opera House.
