AFRIKAANSE SKRYWERSGILDE, DIE. (“Afrikaans Writers Guild”) A (trade) union of Afrikaans writers founded in 19** to fight for the rights of the Afrikaans writer. It was a reaction against the  conservatism, parochialism and racial discrimination displayed by the Afrikaanse Skrywersvereniging (“Afrikaans Writers’ Association”) on the one hand and the perceived oppression and exploitation of the writer by the state (censorship, etc) and publishers (royalsties, etc) on the other. **********
