The Africander Amateurs was the name given to Dutch amateurs by a Naval officer, James Prior, when he reported on a production of De Schipbreuk which he had seen in the African Theatre, Cape Town in 1810. Possibly a reference to the group Tot Nut en Vermaak. (See: Fletcher, 1994)
