Adrian Bekker (1949-) is a musician, composer, actor, draughtsman.

Biography

Born in Cape Town on 6 December 1949, as first born of theatre personalities Fanie Bekker and Estelle Bekker (Estelle Pentz). He spent his early years in Cape Town and a short while in Ceres. He went to school at Jan van Riebeeck Junior till the end of Standard three (grade 5) and then transferred to Paarl Gymnasium in 1960, where he finished school. He later trained as a draughtsman, and would work at this career on and off over the years.

As a youth he did some theatre work with his parents, but soon discovered the guitar, and became a singer, guitarist, drummer and composer. Occasionally doing some theartrical work.


His contribution to South African theatre

His first stage roles were in King Lear with André Huguenet(196*), and Die Binnehof ("The inner court"), directed by Estelle Bekker, that had a good run in Paarl and Cape Town.

Later he did music for a number of cabarets including Foot in your mouth, (UCT Drama, 1985); ‘Where it’s at’, (UCT Drama at the Nico Malan Theatre, 1986), ‘Au’ (Greetings from Hell) by Casper de Vries (Arena Theatre, Nico Malan Theatre, 1987) and The Prince and the Sphinx by David Nissen (Cape Town Festival, 198*).
