(19**-) Theatre and film critic and researcher. Having taught in the English departments at the Universities of Stellenbosch and Western Cape, and the Drama department at Stellenbosch University (where he also co-authored a study of arts activities in Stellenbosch), he became an Associate Professor in the Centre for Film and Media Studies (University of Cape Town). He is the author of Stealing Empire: P2P, Intellectual Property and Hip-Hop Subversion (HSRC Press, 2008) and Static: Music & Identity after Apartheid (HSRC Press, 2012).***
