Absence of a Cello

Absence of a Cello (sometimes The Absence of a Cello) is a 1964 Broadway comedy written by American screenwriter and novelist Ira Wallach (1913—1995) [1].

Translations and adaptations

The play was rewritten and the setting changed to England in 1968 - it opened in the West End in London in October under the title Out of the Question.

Performance history in South Africa

1971-1972: The adaptation Out of the Question was staged by The Brian Brooke Company at the Brooke Theatre in Johannesburg, directed by Brooke from December 1971 to 5 February 1972, with Olive Bodill (Celia Pilgrim), John Hayter (Andrew Pilgrim), Gay Lambert (Marian Jellicoe), Patricia Sanders (Emma Littlewood), Michael Brooke (Peter Littlewood) and Angus Neill (Otis Clifton).
