The original text

First performed at the Opera Comique on 20 July, 1891 and at the Royalty Theatre on 11 and 12 April, 1892, It was very popular in the period and successfully taken on tour later.

Apparently the text was originally "(P)rinted as manuscript, not published" in London and New York by Samuel French (as French's acting edition, no. 2186) in 1891(?).
