The original text
The play is a sequel to O'Neill's Long Day's Journey into Night. It opened on Broadway in 1957.

Performance history in South Africa
1960: Produced by National Theatre Organisation, the same year it was done in London for the first time. The Pretoria production starred Alec Bell as James Tyrone. In the production subsequently done by the NTO Kamertoneel, Bellville, the cast were Jenny Gratus (Josie Hogan), Michael Drin (Phil Hogan), (Cyril Ryan), Johann Nell (James Tyrone), Tony Isted (T. Stedman Harder).
1992: Produced by PACT in the Transvaal, starring Sandra Duncan as Josie Hogan, Michael McCabe as Phil Hogan. Lighting by Stan Knight.
