It has subsequently been made into a hugely poplar feature film and a television movie. First produced in South Africa at the Civic Theatre in Johannesburg in 1962 by Taubie Kushlick and Leon Gluckman. Directed by Margaret Webster it starred Philip Birkenshaw, Stuart Brown, William Roderick, Hugh Rouse and Yossi Graber,  with sets by English designer Pamela Lewis.
