A Man About the House is a play by John Perry (1906-1995)[1].


The original text

An adaptation for the stage from the book written in 1942 by English novelist and playwright Francis Brett Young [2](1884-1954).

First produced by Messrs. H. M. Tenan, LTD., at the Grand Theatre, Derby on 15th October 1945, and subsequently presented at the Picadilly Theatre, London on the 27th February 1946.

The playscript was published October 15th 1945 by Sampson Low, Marston & Co. LTD, London.

Performance history in South Africa

1948: Presented by the Brian Brooke Company at the Hofmeyr Hall, Cape Town in 1948, directed by British director Mary Byron with the author in the audience.

1954: Produced by Anthony Farmer, his 2nd production for the Johannesburg Repertory Players, which took place between 28 May and 19 June 1954.
