A Hundred Years Old is an English translation of Papá Juan: Centenario (1909) by Serafin Quintero (1871-1938) and Joaquin Quintero (1873-1944) - known as "Los hermanos Quinteros" (the Quintero brothers).

Written and produced in Spanish as Papá Juan: Centenario (1909),


Translations and adaptations

The Spanish original was translated into English with the title A Hundred Years Old and published in Four Plays (1927).

Translated into Afrikaans as Die Honderdste Verjaarsdag by Ants Kirsipuu (1927-2003), (husband of Wilma Stockenström).


1956: Performed in the Kirsipuu Afrikaans translation by the National Theatre Organisation as Honderd Jaar Oud.

1957: Performed in the Kirsipuu Afrikaans translation by the National Theatre Organisation under the title Oupa Kanniedood. Directed by Jannie Gildenhuys, who also played the role of Antonon. Others in the cast were Siegfried Mynhardt, Francois van Wyk, Susan Jansen, Sann de Lange, Cobus Rossouw, Tilana Hanekom, Retha Erasmus, Eghard van der Hoven as Trino, Leonora Nel as Currita. Decor and costumes by Frank Graves and Doreen Graves.
