A Fantasmagorie was an illusionary presentation (magic lantern presentation) in the style of "the celebrated Pantomime of Prof. Le Conte", performed in Cape Town by M. Decanis on 7 March, 1837 (F.C.L. Bosman, 1928: p. 230-1).
