A.W. Cole

A.W. Cole (18*-18*) was an advocate and later judge in Cape Town, and an amateur performer and playwright.

Biography

He apparently performed for the Royal Alfred Dramatic Club under the pseudonym Cresswell Esq. in 1860-61 (also found as Cresswell and Cresswill in Bosman, 1980: pp. 154-157).

He wrote three known pieces, Idylls of a Prince, The Plagued Professor (an original interlude, the characters based on members of the Royal Alfred Club, announced under his pseudonym) and a Christmas pantomime entitled Little Jack Horner(1866), also known as Harlequin ABC.
