'n Wingerdstok sal Rank ("a vine will grow") is an Afrikaans play by M.M. Walters (1929-2020).


The original text

Written as an occasional piece for the Afrikaanse Taalfees in 1971, the play is set in 1890.

Published by Perskor, 1975.

Translations and adaptations

Performance history in South Africa

1971: First performed 14 August 1971 in the Paarl City Hall. Presented by CAPAB and several Afrikaans cultural organisations. Direction was by Suzanne van Wyk and members of the cast were Kristo Pienaar, Babs Laker, Johan van Jaarsveld, Hendrik Koster, Cherryl Heath, Elma Brandt, Christiaan Vegter, Dorothea van Schalkwyk, Paul Malherbe, Teubes Prinsloo, André Rossouw, Fanie Bekker, Dawie Maritz. Decor designed by Pieter de Swardt and costumes by Jennifer Craig.
