Total Eclipse

Total Eclipse is a 1967 play by British dramatist Christopher Hampton [1] .

The original text

Based on letters and poems, it presents a historically accurate account of the passionate and violent relationship between the two 19th century French poets Paul Verlaine [2] and Arthur Rimbaud [3], at a time of soaring creativity for both of them.

Performance history in South Africa

1979: A Troupe Theatre Company production was staged at the Grahamstown Festival in 1979, directed by Fiona Ramsay, starring Penny Lorimer, Bryony Mortimer, Gaye Barbour, Richard Grant, Sean Taylor, Aubrey Shelton, Neil McCarthy, Mark Legward, Kiki Savidjian and Jennie Reznek. Set designed by Richard Grant, costumes designed by Jeni Halliday.

1996: Staged at the Grahamstown Festival in 1996, directed by Christopher Weare.
