Stigting vir Bemagting deur Afrikaans

("Foundation for Empowerment through Afrikaans")

A foundation brought into being to promote the interests of the Afrikaans language in the new Post-Apartheid South Africa. Originally founded under the name Stigting vir Afrikaans ("Foundation for Afrikaans") by ***, with Karel Prinsloo as first director. Its aim was to ***.

In 200* the name was changed to the Stigting vir Bemagting deur Afrikaans ("Foundation for Empowerment through Afrikaans") to change the focus and to include all peoples of South Africa, whether Afrikaans is their first language or not. The foundation has since its inception been heavily involved in sponsoring theatre and other performances in Afrikaans, particularly at the various Afrikaans festivals, of which it has also been a partner.
