Marilet Sienaert-van Reenen is a literary scholar and research administrator.

Biography

Born Marilet van Reenen.

Sienaert studied at the University of Pretoria where she completed her B.A. Honours in French cum laude in 1976. After a year at the University of Montpellier in France, she she went to the University of Cape Town to complete a Master’s in French Literature in 1979. Thereafter she spent 23 years as an academic teaching literature, French and later Afrikaans at the Department of Modern Languages at the then University of Durban-Westville (now University of KwaZulu-Natal) and completed a doctorate at the then University of Natal's Department of Afrikaans and Dutch, applying French literary theory to Dutch and early Afrikaans texts.

She relocated to Cape Town to become the Executive Director: Research at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Her career in research management would span 20 years till her retirement. She continues to draw on this experience in her current capacity as a higher education consultant.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Author of Die Franse Bydrae tot Africana-literatuur 1622-1902 (Cape Town: Human & Rousseau, 1989). Based on her doctoral thesis, the books includes information on French language plays on South African themes.
